The EAN (energy identification code) is the unique identifier for your energy meter / meter point. If a supplier or tool asks for your EAN, you can usually find it in the meter cabinet at home. Below are quick, safe steps to locate it.
Where to look
- The meter cabinet / meter cupboard – often in the hallway, basement, garage or utility room.
- On the meter body – check the front or sides of the electricity meter. The EAN is usually printed on a label or next to a barcode.
- The inside of the cabinet door – installer stickers may show the EAN and other meter data.
- Meter documentation – paperwork from the grid operator often lists the EAN.
What to look for
- Keywords: EAN, EAN-code, Meterpoint or Meter ID.
- A long numeric string printed near a barcode or QR code. Copy all digits exactly (don’t drop leading zeros).
Practical tips
- Use your phone camera to zoom in and photograph the label.
- Don’t remove seals, open sealed compartments or touch wiring.
- If in doubt, contact your network operator (Liander, Enexis, Stedin, etc.).
If you cannot find the EAN, your network operator can confirm the correct EAN for your address.
